Ciao a tutti

Upper view on both: original Italeri UH-1B, with resin engine compartment (my mod, see HKN #68 ). Rotor blades corrected by use of spare Italeri blades, trim tabs have to be added still. Baggage compartment door added to the left side from 5 thou plasticard. Louvres in right rear fuselage added (oil cooler outlet?) Will be finished as a Dutch Navy example.
Middle view: Italeri AB.204B: tail boom first corrected by cutting off the pointed rear part, saving the vertical stabilizer. Using the standard UH-1B as a guide. Then cutting off the tail boom at the fuselage joint, and a parallel plug added, build from plastic tube (Evergreen, 10 mm dia) and plasticard. Rotor modified by using the Italer hub and ESCI UH-1D blades, hence the trim tabs. Baggage compartment door added from 5 thou plasticard. Tail rotor shaft cover, and louvres in fuselage added. Horizontal stabilizer slots repositioned. I will finish this one as a Swedish Army example in splinter camouflage with dayglo patches.
Lower view: Italeri UH-1F: tail boom first corrected the same way as above, then cutting off at the fuselage joint. Again a plug constructed from tube and plasticard, slightly tapered. Rotor blades extended by use of spare Italeri blades again. Baggage door (different shape!) added to the right side of he tail. Tail rotor shaft cover, and louvres (different from Agusta's!) in fuselage added. Horizontal stabilizer slots repositioned. This one will be finished as a 20th SOS 'Green Hornets' example, with some decals of my own.
One more note: I found that the Italeri skids are all right for all the examples above, giving a slight 'nose-up' sit. For a UH-1B the fuselage bottom should be parallel to the ground, and the front skid arch should therefore be lowered some 1.5 mm.
After meeting Tony Morgan in Austin last weekend and going over the UH-1F kit with him, he though it would good for me to post my comments on the kit here. I worked on F model Hueys in the Air FOrce and was crewchief of the aircraft depicted in the kit (66-1224). (il grassetto e' mio)
1. The shape of the cowling is wrong on the LH side. The screening covering the speed decreaser gearbox at the rear is the wrong shape. It should be a rounded symetrical shape. The front half looks correct but the rear has been elongated.
2. The antenna dome on the cabin roof wasn't on the real thing.
3. The seat back on the cabin rear wall wasn't used on 37 ARRS F models. I saw it in the parts book but we never installed them.
4. The door for the baggage compartment on the tailboom needs to be scribed on. (Maarten did a great job on his)
5. The synchronized elevators (on tailboom) should be the short cord symmetrical airfoil and position farther forward.
6. The inlet screen should go all the way across on top.
7. Markings are incomplete. Needs the later MAC emblem on the cabin door (older MATs emblem provided), the number is missing from the nose <1224> and the crew cheif name was painted in yellow in a blue box below the pilots door.
8. The box shape on the bottom of the fuselage wasn't there and the hell hole is missing (should be forward of the rear landing gear mount).
9. Rotor blades are too short, should be 48' rotor diameter.
10. Pilots seats are wrong type. Armored seats provided and the F model used an unarmored type.
That's the things I can think of right now, I'll list more if I find them.
Comunque, chiedi e ti sara' dato.

PS: Oh, mi raccomando eh, siamo seri :-B ! :-D

Quanto ritorneranno a fare i kit come 25 anni fa ?
